I am making major edits to this the beginning of 2024, as I see this page gets a lot of hits and it’s out of date.
My name is Heather I am a corporate-working mother of three: a girl in college (Phoebe) and boy twins in high school (Tommy and Liam). I’ve been married to my amazing husband, Tom, for almost 30 years. He truly is my best friend and we have a lot of fun enjoying life together. We love to cook good food (my husband’s is amazing and usually gourmet, mine tends to be more super healthy), spend time with family and friends, work in our garden and do projects around our house. We moved to Austin, TX from outside of Philadelphia, PA in 2021 and bought a house here in 2022. We will be doing a lot of home projects at this house, as we have 2.6 beautiful acres at the beginning of Texas Hill Country!
Our daughter is going to the University of Alabama for Electrical and Computer Engineering, but she really wants to go to law school for Intellectual Property (patent) law. She comes by the engineering degree by way of her parents. It was both our majors many years ago when we met in college. I believe if you are going to college, getting an engineering degree is a great decision if you are good at math and science. You can do anything with an engineering degree … law, medicine, engineering, or IT related like my husband and I. Engineering teaches you how to think and analyze.
Our twin boys are from IVF. I had an infertility blog in the past, where that journey is documented. It was a long and rocky road. They were also 9 weeks premature, but you wouldn’t know it to see them now. Tommy has glasses due to his prematurity and he can’t see close up very well. They love video games like most boys their age, but also are active in Boy Scouts and volunteering. We’re trying to find the sport they like to play, but all love soccer, especially watching the Philadelphia Union, our favorite Major League Soccer team, even though Austin does have a team here. They are in high school and Tommy loves being on the robotics team and Liam loves chess.
My husband is my favorite person in the whole world, my complete best friend. A few years ago, he came back from working across the country full-time, in Colorado. He had an apartment out there and everything. We could only see each other every 4-6 weeks. Sometimes it was as long as 8 weeks! We have decided we will never do that again. He is an amazing chef, has an amazing work ethic and after being together 30 years, I still think he is the sexiest man I’ve ever met. He gets me exactly as I am and brings out the best in me.
As for me, I’m in my 50s, and my work has me currently working from home, as their is no desk space yet for me in downtown Austin. I’m taking this time of no commute to improve all areas of my life. I love setting and achieving goals and reading … books, blogs, fanfiction … anything I can get my hands on. I also love wellness, exercise, healthy eating and taking care of our bodies. I believe age is only a number and I come from a long line of “long-lifers” as my great-grandmother would say. I want to make this long life as healthy as possible!
I want to share my resources, tips, tactics, failures and successes as I move through a massive reinvention of my life now that we are here in Texas!
