I have a word for this year! Last year was a pretty rough year, and one of the signs I see is that I did not have a word of the year. Also because it was a rough year, I also was contracting myself, making myself smaller, not speaking up as much, not taking care of myself, and not trying a lot of new things (except for buying a house 2,000 miles away from where I’m from). I felt I needed not to be too loud in order to be safe. I need to make some changes this year and be bold about what I want.
- I need to start taking better care of myself – exercising, eating healthier, and taking time for myself – such as the daily outdoor walks I started recently
- I need to ensure I’m working on the right things and speaking up at work
- I need to maintain a balance between work and life, so I can take care of myself and my family
- I need to foster hobbies – find a book club, read more books, do more yoga, take more pictures with the big camera
- Getting more pictures with myself in them, not just what I see
- And I plan to blog and write on social more about my experiences, speaking from my heart
I’m sure I’ll be adding to this list this year. Choosing this word, to me is reminiscent of when I was in my 40s and I started deliberately doing things no one would ever think I would do. I did two Spartan races, took a class to be a certified Cize instructor (me dance aerobics???), and ran a 5k race. I’m going to turn 53 this year in March, and I don’t want to slow down anytime soon. I find the people I admire the most are those who are bold to be who they are regardless of age or public opinion. I’d like to be one of those people I admire.
So please excuse me if I speak up a lot this year, on my blog, in social media, at work, and in my personal space. I’m looking forward to having a BOLD year, breaking out of being small, and being the best me I can possibly be!!!
Have you chosen a word of the year? What is it and how did you decide what it is? Do you find it helpful when planning out your year and goals?
