As expected, the weather in November in Austin is very mild. The one Sunday, we decided to go chill by the lake and get some sun. The view is beautiful!
I think this was one of the very few quiet moments we had in November, as the rest of the month was a blur and jam packed with goings on!
My company has been very cool about me moving to Austin and are having me work from home, which is unexpected as they are very much a work-in-the-office type of company. My company does have an office downtown in the same building where my husband works, but my department doesn’t have any desks allocated to them in the building, so they want me to work from home for now. It’s approved through June 2023 and then we’ll take it from there. They may ask me to come downtown to the office after that, which will be fine by me. I’ll just want to commute with Tom. No need to take two cars downtown. And public transportation is not very easy here to downtown. So I’m on Zoom all day and the weather is nice so November is still sundress weather. I just throw on a sweater for work calls. The lighting and mirrors are not the best in this AirBnB we’re staying at, but it’ll do for now.
We’re working hard to get to know the area of Cedar Park, TX and see if this is definitely where we want to buy a house. We joined the YMCA and I love the yoga classes they have here! And the people are so nice. I started talking with someone as I was leaving class the one night and she gave me a hair salon recommendation for the next time I need my hair colored. We’ve also been looking at houses in the area, but most of the backyards have no privacy or have no pool. We’re in no hurry to buy a house and are just looking to see what is on the market right now and to educate ourselves about the area. Our PA house did close the Friday before Thanksgiving. I wasn’t 100% happy with how everything went down as we didn’t get as much money as we wanted, but I’m so glad that was over and we can close that chapter of our life!
But of course the best things happen when you least expect it. We found exactly what we were looking for in a property here in TX and put in an offer while we were traveling to Wisconsin for Thanksgiving. It has over 2 1/2 private acres, has a pool, is in the school the boys want to stay at, and is close to shopping (10-15 minutes). We really didn’t think we’d be making an offer on a house until the new year, but this fell into our lap and we couldn’t wait on it!
We were dealing with counters on our offer while we were in Medford, Wisconsin for Thanksgiving with one of Tom’s brothers that live there. He was turning 50 that weekend and the family decided 2 years ago during the Covid dinner we were all apart that we would go there that year. We also told our boys it was good for us as that was how they were going to get to see snow this winter with us in Texas, LOL. First thing Tommy did was make a snowman!
Thanksgiving dinner, as we’ll as all our family gatherings around that weekend, we had at the Curling Club. Love seeing all the cousins in town and trying their skills at curling together.
The cousins (with our boys) love to play games together too. Here is a pic of most of them at the game table they setup for themselves.
Thanksgiving dinner was great! It was good to see as many of the brothers and sisters and cousins in town as possible. Their oldest sister, Sharon, was the only one who couldn’t make it as she was in the hospital.
I got to spend time with my adorable godson (and great nephew) and read books on my kindle in front of the fire at the club. So tried to relax as much as possible. I wasn’t making the bulk of dinner. Just making the pecan pie and helping out with other things that I could.
The weather was actually quite warm for there while we were in town and we got to walk around the town and get some great pics of the family in front of the wreath the family helped their brother put together for the town. The first pic is all the nieces and nephews that was able to go. Phoebe wasn’t with us, as she had senior design stuff to do and had Thanksgiving dinner with a friend that also stayed on campus.
I’m realizing now the picture that was taken of us and the boys, is out of focus. Ugh! I’ll have to see if I have a better copy of that somewhere.
I’m looking forward to catching up these posts next on December and the year end holidays in Austin. Is there something you’d like me to cover about this move that I haven’t? What questions do you have about moving a family cross country or moving to Texas?
