Last week, I was lucky to be able to get my hair colored. I’m very happy salons are open again, and I’m also happy with the precautions my salon and stylist are taking to ensure we all stay healthy.
I have extremely blonde hair. I make jokes about how I’m most likely the blondest person someone will ever meet. I do love my hair this color as I think it makes me look happy and awake. It is also my mother’s natural hair color, and I also love when she is blonde for the same reasons. Even though my hair is this blonde (hello, Khaleesi!), it is very healthy and I can fool a lot of people into thinking its my real hair color. I can never fool hair stylists, though, LOL. How do I manage to keep my platinum blonde hair so natural and healthy? I have some tips I’d love to share that I’ve learned over the years. If blonde works for you and your coloring, that is great, but I’d hate for your hair to become fried for not learning what I know.
- I am very loyal to my hair stylist. I’ve been seeing her for over 15 years and have been bleaching my hair 100% for over 12 years. Before that I used to get foil highlights, but that actually took a lot longer. I have a lot of hair! If you are OK going to Wilmington, DE to have your hair colored, contact me and I can recommend her personally.
- First things first … I do not wash my hair the day I’m getting my hair colored. I’ll try to have it super dirty, like 2 or 3 days without washing … 4 would be amazing, but I don’t think I could always do that many days! This keeps my scalp from getting dried out from the bleach. The natural oils on my scalp from being dirty keep it well protected.
- My stylist only uses Schwarzkopf Professional products, BlondeMe in particular. I will not link to Amazon for these products, as I believe you should leave this type of extreme hair color to the professionals. I recommend to find a salon that uses these products and talk to the stylist about what you are looking for. Obviously, with going to a salon during these COVID times, find out what precautions they are taking. My salon limits who enters, the stylist opens the door for them when they are ready for their next client, everyone has masks, both stylist and clients, and there are no magazines lying around to read anymore.
- We change up the toner seasonally. I’m not sure exactly which toners she uses, but I let her use her judgement. Sometimes we’ll go more purple in the summer to get a really white platinum look, but in the winter, we’ll give it more of an ash blonde vibe.
- I only wash my hair every other day and I use Schwarzkopf Rescue Repair shampoo and conditioner. I love the way it makes my hair feel soft and silky without any heavy build up that other conditioners seem to leave my hair with. I really hate when conditioners leave my hair feeling like it is think from build up.
- Once a week, I will use a purple hair masque to reduce brassiness. My stylist recommends Pravana Perfect Blonde hair masque.
- I use Enjoy hair oil in my hair every time I wash my hair. I put a quarter size circle in my palm, rub it together in my hands and rub through my hair (bottom first and then the top) when wet and comb my hair through to ensure it is evenly distributed.
- I keep styling instruments (hair dryer, flat iron or curling iron) for special occasions. However, I also need to purchase a new hair dryer. I’m thinking of buying the Dyson hair dryer. I did purchase the Dyson hair dryer right before Christmas. It was the best purchase I’ve made in a long time!!! My hair is very thick and can generally take a 1/2 hour to dry with a hair dryer. The Dyson gets the job done in less than 15 minutes. Talk about a time saver!
Did these tips help you in your quest to have the ultimate blonde hair? Have you tried the Dyson hair dryer? What do you think of it? Is it worth the money?
