I’m going to get us caught up to modern day as quickly as I can over this next week! Exciting things are happening and I want to write all about it!!!
For the month of August, I found us an Airbnb in Eastside downtown Austin, which was great for just Tom and I. We’re not bringing the boys here until Labor Day weekend, so we wanted to enjoy the amenities of being downtown. Tom especially enjoyed the short commute. It was five minutes. Someone I’ve met with the company I work for, says he lives in Eastside and he rides a scooter to work. That is the thing I was so shocked to find coming to Austin, the scooters you can rent just being left anywhere! I need to take some pictures of that!
Well it was nicer for me to be working from the downtown apartment and Tom with his short commute. My company has an office downtown, in the same building my husband is in, but because my department doesn’t have anyone else there, they are telling me to work from home. It’s currently approved until next June, so we’ll see what they want me to do then.
We really did enjoy this time just the two of us and downtown. We went shopping in The Domain, which was a short drive from downtown. Downtown in the evenings, we went to a comedy club, hung out at rooftop bars, walked around, and looked at all the construction!!! There is so much construction here it’s insane!!! This city is growing in leaps and bounds!
My absolute favorite thing about Texas so far is HEB. It’s not pronounced like it looks you say the initials H-E-B. It’s the best grocery store I’ve ever experienced!!! The ones downtown are not as good as the ones in the suburbs, but it will do!!! Things I’ve also noticed that are different is a love of corn dogs (check out this pic of an entire two cases in the freezer dedicated to them!) and I haven’t found any good pierogis yet (I looked as I had a craving for them one day…).
These three weeks we spent downtown were good, but I was missing my boys something fierce! Next step is to go back to Philly and drive with the boys to bring them here.
