Eating Like a Uniform
Have you ever heard that it’s better for your brain to do some things habitually so your brain doesn’t get decision fatigue? Kind of like wearing the same or similar style of clothing everyday, so you don’t need to think about what you’re wearing.
I would find that very boring, but I have on the whole developed this around what I eat and that is one thing I think really works for me. At least for breakfast and lunch every day I eat something similar, and then for dinner I’ll eat whatever we’re having as a family. I think this is one of the things that has kept my weight stable over these 50 years. I might not be happy when I don’t get enough exercise, but on the whole this is the daily eating plan I have every day. There are some options, but on the whole it is the same every day.
Breakfast Options
My choices for breakfast are: chocolate, vanilla or sometimes coffee. It’s my protein shake. Every morning, I will have 8oz of unsweetened almond milk (vanilla or unsweetened), I’ll add a few ounces more of water and a packet of vegan Shakeology. Sometimes if I am feeling extra special, I’ll break out the blender and add some frozen blueberries and kale. But most days, I just throw it in a shaker cup and move on with my day. I also grab a big 25 oz water bottle and setup my vitamins at the same time.
This gives me the protein and hydration I need to start my day. I’ve never been a cereal person and Shakeology has helped me break a bad relationship I had with a daily bagel fix. It also has a lot of the Chinese herbs that my acupuncturist used to give me to deal with stress. I am a coach with Beachbody, and the link will give me credit, but I am just sharing what has worked for me for breakfast for over 15 years and they have a lot more vegan flavors that make me happy! I found the product when I was looking for a vegan protein shake that didn’t taste like sawdust. I am dairy intolerant and need protein at each meal as I’m hypoglycemic.
Lunch Options
I am pretty much a salad and protein kind of a girl. Usually some kind of chicken on top of a salad with olives, and home made vinaigrette dressing. Right now I have an apple cider vinaigrette in the fridge with garlic, Italian herbs, and a little bit of maple syrup. I was really happy with the boneless chicken breast I made this week that had the same Italian herbs on it with some olive oil and paprika. I baked it for 15 minutes at 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
Once in a while I’ll add some leftover soup to my lunch menu with the salad. Especially if its a dreary day!
Dinner
For dinner, I’ll eat whatever we decide to have as a family. We don’t do a lot of pre-prepared meals. We like tacos, homemade pizza (my husband makes the best pizza dough!), pasta with sausage, burgers, pork chops, chicken thighs with crispy seasoned skin. I’m very much into family dinners, even if it’s just quick sandwiches and soup. I’ve always felt that is a good time to reconnect after a day apart with the family.
What do you think of this style of eating? Have you already brought something like this into your routines for similar reasons of wanting to eat healthy, but don’t want to think about it?
